For development to be truly sustainable, water and sanitation providers, even in poor countries, must work toward financial independence. That’s a key message delivered by African Water and Sanitation Association President Silver Mugisha, an IHE Delft alumnus who also is the Managing Director of Uganda’s National Water and Sewerage Corporation, in a filmed interview.
Dr Mugisha, who earned an MSc in Sanitary Engineering from IHE Delft in 2000, gave the interview during a working visit to IHE Delft in February 2024. While in Delft, he received the Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) Ambassador Award in recognition of his contribution toward the goals and aspirations of the school. He also discussed cooperation with IHE Delft Rector Eddy Moors and Damir Brjanovic, IHE Delft Professor of Citywide Inclusive Sanitation and GSGS co-initiator and director.
