On December 18, 2019, I put a security camera in my room. I have been vacated from this room, you see, ostensibly so that building management could make it comply with HPD codes regarding access to egress or a sprinkler system. Instead, building management has tried to parley this repair/vacate order into a de-facto eviction by suing harassment to make me not want to come back and trying to get my stuff out of my room before it legally has to go. With that room empty of me and my stuff, they can fix it up and rent it to someone else.

One of the reasons they want to do this is because the room is currently rent stabilized. They thought that if they could fix it up, they could take it out of rent stabilization, but they are wrong on several counts. The court and the law say that they are supposed to fix up the place so that I can move back into a safe, legal room, and it will still be rent stabilized.


I took them to housing court the day after the vacate order was enforced, of course, and they eventually tried to rent me another room in the building (you can see my visit to that room    • 182 Graham: Room 3B Special Edition  ) under threat of eviction. I had, however, gotten a court order that said he could not rent the room to someone else, he could not remove my stuff, and he would have to let me return to remove stuff at a reasonable time. So when I did get back into the room to remove stuff (on the same day that I visited the other room) I put in this camera.


I also informed him, his associate Dennis Rodriguez, and his lawyer, Ron Hariri, of this court order and that I had filed the approipriate paers to secure this room as "my room" and that I would not allow any entry into my room without prior notice and permission.

As of this writing, there have been four visits, during one of which Antonio Cook destroyed some of my property (   • Antonio Hernan Cook trashes my room at 182...  ). Since building management has been entering my room with such impunity, I have requested my lawyer to ask their lawyer for a copy of the key to the room that I may change the lock. I will allow them entry when reasonably requested and visit it on occasion myself to retrieve and remove such stuff as I need.

Building management is supposedly putting together the court-ordered plan to make the building legal so all the vacated tenants can move back in. Should the plan not meet to our satisfaction, we go back to court on March 19, 2020.
