[voice over] If equipped, the rear axle lock system allows the rear differential to mechanically lock together the axle shafts forcing the wheels to spin at an equal rate. This improves handling in low-speed, extreme off-road situations where one wheel is likely not to be in contact with the ground. To lock the rear axle, just push the button, and the light will flash until the axle is locked, then remain solid. If the light continues to flash, you may need to drive the vehicle in a turn or on loose gravel to expedite the locking action.

Operating in 4-Wheel Drive Low, the locker can be engaged up to 40 mph or 64 km/h and will remain engaged throughout the 4-Wheel Drive Low speed range.

Operating the locker in 2-Wheel Drive, if equipped, or 4-Wheel Drive Auto and 4-Wheel Drive High, the locker can be engaged up to 20 mph or 32 km/h. On TRX models, the locker will remain engaged throughout the entire 4WD speed range.

On non-TRX models, if speed exceeds 25 mph or 40 km/h, the locker will automatically disengage, but will automatically reengage at 20 mph or 32 km/h.

Depending on the model, you’ll find Axle Lock button below the gear selector, or in the 4WD mode selector. To unlock the rear axle; push the axle lock button and the indicator light will go out.

If the axles do not unlock after pressing the button, you may need to drive slowly while turning the steering wheel from a left-hand turn to a right-hand turn, or drive in reverse for a short distance.
