A new political earthquake hits Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) after Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, son of former AJK PM Mumtaz Rathore, takes oath as the new Prime Minister. The oath ceremony inside the AJK Assembly immediately turned controversial as private media was stopped, several journalists were blocked from coverage, and even some PPP workers were denied entry, causing anger and walk-outs.
Senior political leaders also faced backlash. A video of Raja Farooq Haider went viral after he reacted angrily when journalists asked whether he would support the no-confidence vote. Critics called it a double standard, as PML-N had strongly opposed PPP earlier yet still supported the new government.
Meanwhile, PML-N AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir repeated his strong criticism of PPP. From the PTI side, Abdul Qayoom Niazi issued a hard warning, saying the new government will face tough accountability. Muslim Conference leader Sardar Attique Ahmad Khan had already refused to sign the no-confidence resolution a day earlier.
The debate over refugee (muhajireen) quota and ministries also remains a major challenge, especially after the Awami Action Committee warned that any violation of the agreement would lead to a new protest movement.
To add more tension, Transport Minister Javed Butt was reportedly denied access to the Assembly. Former PMs Sardar Yaqoob, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, and other notable figures are now being linked to the next phase of AJK power politics.
This report connects the entire background of:
• The fall of Ch. Anwar-ul-Haq’s government
• No-confidence voting and PTI’s rejection
• PPP internal differences and workers’ frustration
• Media freedom concerns inside AJK Assembly
• The new challenges faced by PM Faisal Mumtaz Rathore
• Upcoming cabinet decisions and expected power-sharing battles
A new chapter in Kashmir politics is unfolding, and the storm has just begun.
