Once I was a young man
With my heart ablaze
Just trying to understand
And dancing where the devil played
Soon my heart was filled with questions
I listened and still asked why
I learned a hard lesson
All the answers had run dry
In the corners of my restless mind
I seek but I ain’t been able to find
Like tattoos on my skin I’ll forever keep
Far below the surface my questions still run deep
I’ve been through the mill and I’ll tell you
I’m guessing I’ll never know
I don’t have as much conviction
As I did years ago
I’ve been walking a long time
Seen the sun rise and set
There’s unsettled bones of contention
That I won’t ever forget
Maybe I’m just a fool at best
But my heart ain’t ever gonna rest
