Venom Cover Gallery

I’ll be honest, I don’t have much interest in Venom. I think his early appearances in ASM are excellent but after issue #375, it felt like there was very little you could do with Venom. As such, he’s never been one of my very favorite Spider-Man villains and I don’t think much of his solo stuff works at all. (Don’t even get me started on his stupid movie.)

However, when Flash Thompson became Venom in 2011 during Rick Remender’s run, I thoroughly enjoyed that book. I finally realized that I think I like Venom when he’s done differently. But it wasn’t until Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s run on Venom that really inspired me to seek out the remaining Venom issues I never owned in the 90s and beyond. Cates’ run on Venom is possibly the best Venom has ever been. Their run redefined the character and truly cracked how you write Venom independent of Spider-Man. It’s a really great run of comics and with the recent announcement of Cates and Stegman’s departure of the book in April’s #35/#200, I felt compelled to make yet another retrospective/cover gallery of Venom.

Obviously, much like pretty much every Marvel title out there, there is a Legacy Numbering. And let me just say: Venom’s Legacy Numbering is by far the stupidest. It makes zero sense and I am baffled it was even published this way. It features the “Venom Super Special”, overlooks “Sign of the Boss” completely, switched the order of “On Trial” and “Finale” and includes the stupid “.1” issues. So in this video, I have my own version of Venom’s Legacy Numbering. My goal was to make sure Venom #150 is the 150th issue overall so to do that, I added in some outside choices to reach #150. My version of the Legacy Numbering includes “Rune vs. Venom” as well as “Venom vs. Carnage”. I basically omitted the Super Special, the “-1” issue, and all “.1” issues. So my Legacy Numbering looks like this:
