Objectives:
1. Describe changes created by the 2021 Indiana Advance Directive overhaul bill
2. Describe responsibilities and authority for the Health Care Representative (HCR)
3. Identify individuals who can make decisions for the patient if an HCR is not named

Robyn Axel-Adams is the manager for the Fairbanks Center for Medical Ethics. Before taking this position, she worked at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital as a Staff Chaplain for seven years and with the Palliative Care team for almost a year. She is an ordained United Methodist clergy person and Board Certified Chaplain. Her Masters of Divinity is from Emory University and her Masters of Science in Leadership is from the University of Evansville. She completed the Fairbanks Fellowship in Clinical Ethics in 2011-2012, where she focused on developing a curriculum for teaching internal medical residents about medicine and spirituality. She currently Co-leads School of Medicine’s Religion, Spirituality, and Medicine concentration. She is working on a proof of concept of having more Advance Care Planning conversations in the out-pt clinic setting. She is married and has 2 children and 2 cats. She in a NPR geek and a fierce LGBTQ ally.

The Ethics Lecture Series is free and open to all. Continuing education credit is offered to physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and chaplains at no charge, regardless of their institutional affiliation.
