The Tibetan alphabet contains 30 consonant sounds and 4 main vowel sounds. Every consonant is followed by the "a" vowel sound. There are 4 main vowel sounds. To change a vowel sound, you will use a vowel diacritic sign, which is added either above or below the letter. The i, e, and o are written above the letter, and the u is written below. The a sound is not marked, but rather implicit.
