Luka Doncic woke up his demons and gave us the iconic look which meant that he was about to go god mode.
Do you see the pattern here in the first quarter? Every single one of these buckets are inside. Luka decided that he wasn’t going to be stopped and proceeded to walk his way to the paint possession after possession.
And this was evident when he basically bulldozed through the defensive master Jrue Holiday.
And it wasn’t just him, Kyrie also attacked the Celtics with all he had, unloading every weapon on them as he previously announced.
And he did just that.
In fact the entire Mavs team as well. The first quarter looked like a layup line for Dallas, and some of it was their do or die mentality, but some of it was Boston allowing it.
Where is Tatum on the blockout here, how does Green fly in so easily in between the defense?
And when you give this team the confidence, then crazy things start to happen…
Derick Lively all of a sudden turns into a sniper for his first career three pointer.
And don’t be surprised because he’s practicing that shot.
And just moments later his bread and butter…
As great as they started out on offense, the real shocker came on the defensive end.
This is championship level of defense, an effort overall. Heck, even Doncic was sliding his feet, and contesting shots looking like a defensive stopper on the court.
So in the second, things really escalated out of control…
Again, they got anything they wanted, but the defensive intensity was wild.
The Mavs limited Boston to a staggering 3 for 16 shooting. 3 field goals for the entire quarter is absolutely astonishing.
And Dallas ended the half with the exclamation point…
This 26 point lead at the break ended up being the fourth largest halftime lead in NBA finals history, and allowing just 35 points is insane.
If the Celtics hoped to come back and seal the deal in this game, they had to go all out in the second half.
But instead, the complete opposite happened, as Dallas continued to dominate.
Jrue Holiday, who did not have a single turnover in the finals, all of a sudden now lost the ball 3 times in the quarter, and Luka caused all of them. So then…
The crowd absolutely explodes and of course Dirk is loving it.
A 36 point lead at the end of the third quarter is pretty much game over, only thing is, the game was far from having a boring end to it. Let me explain.
With both teams emptying their benches to start the fourth quarter, that meant that Tim Hardaway Jr had the neon green light to do whatever he wanted for a whole 12 minutes.
And he let it fly…
In a completely chaotic sequence, this guy buried 5 three pointers in just 2 and a half minutes, sending the crowd into a frenzy, with poor Dirk being the only guy who couldn’t enjoy the show as he was giving a meaningless interview to ESPN to fill in the broadcast in a blowout game.
And despite it being a 38 point debacle, I enjoyed this game and gave it a decent 5.6 rating on rategame, the app that I’m a part of where we rate and review sports games.
