In this math video we will determine if pairs of numbers are on opposite sides of zero on a number line. We will identify zero on a number line and understand that it splits a number line into two sections. Negative numbers are to the left of zero and positive numbers are to the right of zero. We will understand that zero is neither negative nor positive and does not lie on either side. We will consider each pair of numerical values given and plot the on the number line to determine if they are on opposite sides of zero. We will eliminate incorrect answers and identify the correct solution. An exemplar solution is modeled and explained.

6.NS.C.6.a Recognize opposite signs of numbers as indicating locations on opposite sides of 0 on the number line; recognize that the opposite of the opposite of a number is the number itself, e.g., –(–3) = 3, and that 0 is its own opposite.
6.NS.C.6.b Understand signs of numbers in ordered pairs as indicating locations in quadrants of the coordinate plane; recognize that when two ordered pairs differ only by signs, the locations of the points are related by reflections across one or both axes.
