Mono-Black Deathtouch with Hooded Blightfang | M21 Standard Deck Guide

Today we're playing some Mono-Black Deathtouch, an archetype that didn't exist in Standard until the release of one Hooded Blightfang, a three-mana black creature that triggers with life gain/drain whenever a creature with deathtouch attacks. In order to maximize the deathtouch synergy I decided to prioritize creatures that have deathtouch in the first place (Hired Poisoner, Vampire of the Dire Moon) over the ones that can grant or acquire it (Blacklance Paragon, Thieves' Guild Enfrocer). Anything in the latter category got cut right away; I realized that I really needed those fast 3-deathtouchers-into-Blightfang starts, and missing out on triggers wasn't an option. Frankly, the deathtouch creatures are bad, really bad, so this list has to be synergy or bust!

I think the best part about this deck is that it creates a home for Hired Poisoner, a little guy that never amounted to much of anything...until now! Just wait--Hired Poisoner will carry this deck on his back to the top of the metagame. Say goodbye, Temur Reclamation!
