In this chapter, we will study the concept of The National Movement.
The sudden withdrawal of the Non- Cooperation Movement gave a major setback to the National Movement in India.

THE SWARAJ PARTY
The Congress, meanwhile, got divided into two groups.
The first group was that of the 'No- changers', who wanted to boycott the government council.

THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF INDIA
In 1920, M.N. Roy founded the Communist Party of India at Tashkent.
The All India Kisan Sabha of 1936 worked for the betterment of peasants and farmers.
The All India Trade Union Congress was formed on 31 Oct 1920 with Lala Lajpat Rai as its President.
The Forward Bloc was formed by Subhash Chandra Bose in 1939.

THE SECOND PHASE OF THE REVOLUTIONARY MOVEMENT
Many young nationalist leaders were disappointed with the leadership and programs of Gandhiji.
In North India, the Revolutionary Movement started with the formation of the Hindustan Republican Association ( HRA) IN 1924 at Kanpur.
It was formed by Sachindranath Sanyal, Jogesh Chandra Chatterjee, and Ramprasad Bismil.

The three objectives of Hindustan Republican were as under:

Establishment of the Federal Republic of the United States of India.
Conduct political crimes and dacoits to raise money and arms for the movement.

Ram Prasad Bismil, Roshan Lal, Asfaqullah Khan and Rajendra Lahiri- four of the 29 persons were hanged.
In 1928, the revolutionaries formed the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army (HSRA).

THE SIMON COMMISSION
In November 1927, the British Government appointed the Simon Commission under the Chairmanship of Sir John Simon.
The Commission was to enquire into the working of the Government of India Act of 1919' and suggest new reforms.
