Описание к видео Guitar Instructions

This is a broad overview of all of the things that I think someone should know about the guitar. I cover the string names in standard tuning; some methods of tuning the guitar by ear (presuming one correctly in-tune string or a valid reference pitch); the 12 pitches in 12-tone equal temperment; transposition by moving chords/scales/sequences up and down the fretboard and by scalar relationships (E.g. I, IV, and V chords in different keys). I talk about the pattern in frets/semitones to generate the major scale from a given note and talked about how modes relate to a scale. I showed how to create all of the diatonic chords of a given key and abstracted to other more exotic scales (E.g. Harmonic Minor). I talked about chord qualities and what chords each of the modes of the major scale give you (7th chords, anyway). I suggested a particular way of learning the fretboard through a major scale and its modes by giving each of them defined fingering patterns and transposing the patterns as necessary. I talked briefly about various picking techniques, palm muting, hammer-ons and pull-offs, and legato. I showed several ways of playing harmonics on the guitar (natural, artificial, and using a note 12 frets above a target note). I briefly went over an approach to improve your string bending technique. I probably should have gone over vibrato while I was on the topic, but I didn't. Other than that, I give various opinions on things like pick thickness, string gauge, and methods of reasoning about music theory without getting in too deeply.

I do not cover:
-The circle of fifths
-Musical notation including the symbols for key signatures, sharps, flats, naturals, or whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth, 32nd, ...etc. notes, or tuplets.
I do make mention of the order of sharps added to the key of C major and give a pattern by which to figure out what sharps exist in a key. (This could also be used to determine what key is being mentioned by a key signature, since you could ask "which key has #" sharps?)

Be warned that this video is not structured in any sort of building-block pattern and is presented in a disarray of concepts that I find to be generally important. The things that I covered are mostly things that I wish that someone had told me when I started teaching myself guitar as a teenager. I didn't have anyone to teach me or any books for years. When I finally had dial-up internet and could look up what scales were, it made a huge difference (even if I had to come up with my own scale shapes).

Please note that I made this video for my nephew with the hope of introducing him to a wide array of concepts with enough explanation to help him research what he needs to fill in the gaps on his own -- or at least with the expectation that he'll ask for clarification where needed. I may post a followup, if there are enough questions from my nephew to merit additional more specific explanations of any of the topics that I've already covered -- or which involve things that I didn't cover. With that said, it is very unlikely that I'll read any comments on this video. I'm not really expecting any of them, and am only making this video public, because it seems like a nice thing to do.

I recomend checking out the following youtube videos for higher quality and more specific instruction:
Guthrie Govan -- String Bending Masterclass

Frank Gambale -- Modes No More Mystery (I couldn't find this on Youtube but it definitely exists elsewhere)

Paul Gilbert talking about picking:

I'm sure that there are many more useful videos I could mention / link, but these are the ones that come to mind at present.

Whether it's my nephew watching or anyone else, I hope that you find at least some of the information useful.
