Creating a Clay Slab Drape Molded Deviled Egg Serving Tray

Описание к видео Creating a Clay Slab Drape Molded Deviled Egg Serving Tray

This video shows the process I use for making a Deviled Egg Serving Platter. The size in the video holds 24 egg halves. I make it from a ¼” thick slab, and drape it over a Bamboo Tools Oval Drape mold. (see link below) I make little egg molds to place on top of the big mold and dust them with cornstarch first. After I press the slab onto the mold to get the shape of the eggs, I trimmed the edge and then allowed it to get leatherhard with a towel covering it and a bag. Once leatherhard, I removed it from the mold by flipping it upside down, and then cleaned the edge and added a decorative trim. Once finished, I dried very slowly then fired. I glazed the textured trim by glazing and sponging off the high points. I also wax resisted the bottom of the bumps before glazing. For these examples, I used my studio clay of Laguna Bmix cone 5 with grog, and Coyote really red, Moroccan Sand Antique Jade and Turbulent Indigo. The smaller tray shown at the end was glazed with Coyote Black, Desert Sage, and rimmed with Gunmetal Green.

The one in the video is the 17.5” x 8” mold.

I made this video for my Ceramics students at Mason High School. Some of the kids have expressed interest in this technique for their final project each semester, the "Pick a Passion" Project. Use this technique and extrapolate to many different sizes and forms!

I am a public high school ceramics teacher at William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; https://www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsA...

I started my Youtube channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students!

Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!
