In this video of how I make a quick template for woodworking, I show you how I take it a table leg configuration and make a trace onto an 8-in piece of plywood using a pencil. After I've traced out the outline of the table leg configuration I take the plywood over to the band saw and start to cut out template following the lines but not getting too close. Finish up the edges on the disc Sander Taking it to the line. On the bandsaw I start off by removing the larger portions of waste so that the piece can be more manageable. The bandsaws throat depth is only 12 in so I don't have a large area to work with so it would make sense to remove as much material as possible so that the template will be maneuverable and all the cuts that I need to make. I find that making shorter cuts are more accurate than trying to make real long cuts. The real long cuts have a tendency to wander off the line, but the shortcuts you can. You can hit those real quick and then go on to the next one and try to maintain a straight line. The other thing that I try to do is to make scallop cuts which will give me the shortcuts that I need to make. After making the cuts on the bandsaw I've got the template cut out. Pretty good with little stock to remove so I'll go over to the disc Sander that I have installed on my table saw. I really like having this sander in my table saw this makes it nice and convenient so I don't have to have another piece of equipment to walk around since I have a small shop. The disc Sander does a good job. I can hit three sides but then I have to flip it over because I didn't remove the riving knife. I didn't want to go through all that and take the riding knife out and have space to to do all sides while on one surface. After I've completed the sanding and brought everything to the line on the template, the template is done.
