Indian Foreign Secretary Likely to Visit Bangladesh Amid Rising Tensions | Vantage with Palki Sharma

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will reportedly visit Dhaka next week for a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin. If confirmed, it would be the first major engagement with Bangladesh's interim regime. As per a report, Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hosain informed the scheduled Foreign Secretary-level Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) between Bangladesh and India will take place in Dhaka on December 9 or 10. The reports of his visit came in amid escalating tensions between Dhaka and Delhi including the recent attacks on minorities including Hindus. Press Secretary to Chief Advisor to Bangladesh's interim govt. Shafiqul Alam said in an interview that his country is, "trying to deepen its relationship" with India. The bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh hit rock bottom when latter's PM Sheikh Hasina sought refuge in India following her ouster from her own country. This was followed by instances of attacks on Hindu temples further impacting the bilateral relations.
