Bonjour à tous! In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Yves Saint Laurent, 6 parisian museums collaborated to display his work alongside their own masterpieces. Today we will visit Musée d’art Moderne de Paris

The Musee d’art Moderne was started in 1937 where they had the opportunity to create two museums, one owned by the city of Paris and another one by the French state.

The three dresses vibrant colors matches the bright and huge paintings of Raoul Dufy especially in this painting called The Electricity Fairy.

The Dance by Henri Matisse (black and white ensemble)

Henri Matisse loves to do cut-out techniques in his drawing. SImilarly, YSL also did the same thing as shown in this skirt with appliques and the patchwork stripes shown on the other skirt.

There were three versions of the Dance, one was this one, the incomplete dance, which he found was too decorative. He then made another version in different colors. Later he realized it’s not the right size and so he made a 3rd version which is now in Pennsylvania.

Graphic Painting

This is Alain Jacquet’s version of Manet’s famous Dejeuner sur L’herbe or Lunch on the grass. He used silkscreen printing to create this effect and which is wonderfully matched with YSL’s 1966 Spring Summer collection of three jacquard wool jackets.
