How do you know whether you suffer from anxiety on test day? Common signs of performance anxiety on the GMAT include sleepless nights, unforced errors on test day, sudden spirals of doubt and despair about your future, and fears of getting stuck and not achieving your goals.

Why does this happen? When you perceive a threat, your body goes into overdrive, and your nervous system goes into "fight or flight" mode. When that happens, your heart rate and blood pressure increase. You experience a rise in muscle tension, you release adrenaline, and your digestion stops.

If you have performance anxiety, this response happens every time you walk into a GMAT test center. So, how can you manage it? The GMAT is a perceived threat, but when you focus on the present moment and take the exam one question at a time, you will see a decrease in anxiety. Anxiety is a sign that you care about your performance, and if you interpret and handle your anxiety in the right ways, your GMAT and GRE performance can improve dramatically.
