Inspired by her transformative decade living in Colorado, Rebecca Frazier's “High Country Road Trip” evokes majestic Rocky Mountain scenery while posing questions about living in the moment as one is considering life-changing decisions.

Rebecca captures that transcendent feeling in her new official video, shot in Colorado with co-writer Rorey Carroll. The two songwriters drive a 1967 Ford Mustang southbound along Highway 285 and up towards the Great Divide, as the song’s lyrics depict. Videographer Rees Gibbons renders the dramatic scenery of the Rockies and the poignant spirit of the song.

“My whole life has been a counterpoint of going with my gut and enjoying the moment while also considering intention and the bigger picture,” Rebecca explains. “I grew up on the water, so I love going with the flow and being taken for a ride. But I’ve got that philosophical side, where I’m also asking, ‘Where is this leading?’ This song is meant to capture that moment of joy somewhere in the middle: that elevated feeling of loving the lightness of not knowing what’s around the bend, and not necessarily trying to create a specific outcome.”

GRAMMY-winning producer Bill Wolf elevated the track with unique arrangement ideas and a cast of top-level musicians, including Béla Fleck, Sam Bush, Stuart Duncan, Josh Swift and Barry Bales. “I’m proud of this track, and I loved creating this song and video with Rorey,” Rebecca says. “Rorey has also lived in Colorado, and she understood my emotional connection with the mountains. We had a blast pretending to be Thelma and Louise—there’s nothing like driving a vintage Mustang through the mountains, with the wind in your hair!”

A bluegrass luminary herself, Frazier gained notoriety as the first woman to grace the cover of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine. In 2018, she also became the first woman to earn a Guitar Performer of the Year nomination from the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America, an honor she received again in 2019. Frazier is widely known for her work with Colorado-based outfit Hit & Run, the only band to score the bluegrass-world trifecta of winning Rockygrass, Telluride and SPBGMA festival band competitions.
