Ivan Chermayeff was one of the best American graphic designers, the son of the Russian born, British architect Serge Chermayeff.

A prolific designer, illustrator and collage artist, Ivan Chermayeff's lyrical, expressive style has resulted in iconic images for literally hundreds of clients. As a founding partner of Chermayeff & Geismar, his trademarks, posters, publications, art installations for contemporary buildings, and illustrations are widely recognised and have received nearly every award bestowed by the profession in the US. His work as an artist has been exhibited widely internationally.

At his Design Indaba Conference talk in 2008, graphic designer Ivan Chermayeff looked back at his 50-year career as a graphic designer to understand what defines the discipline.
