Over the past three days, there has been an unprecedented outpouring of members of the Jain community on the streets of Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai, Bhopal and Delhi, to name a few places. There are two points of contention. First, the decision of the Jharkhand government to develop Sammed Shikharji, a hill temple spiritually and religiously revered by the Jain community, as an ecotourism spot. Second, vandalism, alleged encroachment and sale of illicit liquor near Shatrunjaya hill in Palitana town in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.
