in case some of you are confused about Naozumi (the racer), in the movie he distances himself from his brother and punishes himself by self-destructive behaviour because he believes he has ended one life and ruined another (his brother) by lying. The self-destructive behaviour also comes from wanting to fulfil a promise he made, to be the best racer in the world to their dead childhood friend so he could prove to her he is not a liar.
