I made this back in August when I rewatched s11-13.
Throwback to season twelve and thirteen, which have a very special place in my heart. It's when I learned to love this show again after S9-11, which were lowkey difficult to get through, for a variety of reasons, mainly the drop in quality. The end of s11 turned this show on its axis and yes, it was painful to watch; but it also gave us back this show in its full emotional weight, in my opinion. The way it dealt with mourning, and grieving; with memories, and moving on. I felt that. And when I think of post-Derek Greys, I think of them. Meredith/Amelia/Maggie getting to truly know each other, flaws and all. Learning to be sisters, fighting and making up; and Meredith/Alex, having each other's back no questions asked; and Jo, emerging as a fully-rounded character - with her indomitable spirit, despite all the trauma.

In my head those different dynamics and story arcs back there are tightly connected, they echo each other, explicitly or subtly. It's about family ties, new and old, wanted or not. It's about found family, choosing the people you want around you, and fighting to keep them in your life. It's about comfort, even from people you don't expect. It's about empathy in shared experiences, but also understanding for things you cannot relate to, but try anyway. It's about seeing each other, warts and all. But also, seeing each other beyond the trauma; carving out a safe space for healing, or to prevent each other from getting hurt in the first place - because you've been there before, and you KNOW. someone like you, and all you know, and how you speak.

I know it's been only a few years, but I already feel nostalgic. I feel current Greys is already in a new era. S14-15-16 for me are a different chapter - and I keep loving it with all my heart. Especially in the way Link, and DeLuca got into these dynamics, and added something new. And also Meredith/Jo. THEM. I gotta edit THEM.

PS is the pacing off? probably. i just wanted scenes to play out instead of chopping them up. im tired of chopping. i think greys works better like this.
