Chaturmas is believed to be the period when the Gods are asleep. Lord Vishnu goes into a deep state of meditation while resting on his seven-headed serpent, Shesha Nag, underneath the cosmic ocean (Kshirasagara). The months of Shravan, Bhadrapada, Ashwin and Kartik form the Chaturmas period. These months have festivals and auspicious days galore.
