Details For Frost Protected Shallow Foundations

Описание к видео Details For Frost Protected Shallow Foundations

A frost protected shallow foundation or “Swedish foundation system” is a unique strategy that can be used to reduce the depth of the footings in cold climates, as rigid insulation is installed horizontally rather than vertically to change the isotherms. The horizontal length of the insulation skirt should be the equivalent to the frost depth of the location that you’re building in (i.e. if the frost depth is 42 inches, the insulation should project 42 inches horizontally. This strategy is also a viable option for sites with complicated rocky terrain, in which excavation can be costly.
