Erik Verheul is a civilian at the Royal Netherlands Navy. He proposed a plan to the Commander of the Royal Netherlands Navy for a scientific expedition to the island of Jan Mayen. Vice Admiral Borsboom was enthusiastic about this proposal, and today he explains why. This story is an example of how initiatives at the workplace are valued and realized.

Erik Verheul is a civilian engineer at the Royal Netherlands Navy. For a Navy mission he educated himself as a sculptor to restore a old marker.
