Dr. Shamsher Ali obtained his doctorate in Theoretical Nuclear Physics from Manchester University in 1965. He worked at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste Italy and as Director of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission until 1978. He was a Professor of Physics at University of Dhaka from 1982 to 2006. From 2004 to 2012 he served as President of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. Besides his professional publications and work he has been actively involved in popularising science and technology.
