There is a conspiracy theory that Viserys 2 is Aemond's son because no one really know how Viserys looks like after he was separated by his twin brother Aegon many years ago.They tend to look older than their actual age. If that is the truth, Aemond's blood is the one that continued the Targaryen bloodline in the Iron throne.

On the other hand,there is another theory that Alys put a curse on Harrenhal so that one day her son's descendants would rule.100 years or so later, some no name knight is granted the castle and House Whent is formed after the previous house dies out and is disposed of.

House Whent is directly linked to the Stark children through the matrilineal line.That would make all the Tullys; so Catelyn, Edmure and Lysa are part Targaryen and their children.So in the end, Aemond's descendant ends up on the Iron Throne through King Bran.
