East Lancashire Railway Autumn Diesel Gala, October 1993

More coverage of an East Lancashire Railway Diesel Gala, this one being the Autumn 1993 event which occurred across three days, 1st, 2nd & 3rd October of that year. For those that enjoy locos changing ends of the train at Rawtenstall, this video is right up your street!

By 1993 the ELR diesel events were really finding their feet and provided something for everyone to enjoy, each event bettering the previous one. This particular event featured a full multi pairing of D821 & D832, the first time since BR days that a pair of Warships had been worked in multiple. From memory the jumpers only worked on one end of D821 which is why that loco was always leading out of Bury.

E3003 kept cropping up as a loco on "drags" which while it put the front coach further from the working loco did add some additional load to be hauled. Almost everything had a go hauling E3003 which gave some very unusual combinations of power that would never have happened in BR service!

Anything goes at Bury - and if it doesn't they'll find a way to make it go!

D1041 was in fine form as always, drawing the usual large crowd when ever it ran. One day, she will be great again!
