The Aguila Standard Velocity Bullet is a lead solid point bullet weighing 40 grains. Its muzzle velocity is clocked at 1130fps while producing 113ft/lbs of energy. This bullet at 100 yards is still flying at 981fps and produces 86ft/lbs of energy. The Aguila Standard Velocity bullet comes in at right around $3.00 a box currently for 50 (4/2/24). A very low-cost ammo, and a very good quality ammo for such a low price point. I must say Mexico knows its ammo, as these are made in Mexico and a darn fine job they do as well.

The bullets were tested at 50ft or 16.67 yards, using 50 rounds of ammo. The gun used was the Ruger Mark IV Competition with a 6.88” barrel. It has a 1:16” RH twist and a 3.5lb trigger pull.

The recoil on these is very mild and for a lead bullet it isn’t pushing out a bunch of lead dust at the end of the barrel. Not as much as other ammo’s I have shot anyway. I can’t say out of the 50 bullets I shot that I actually had a single flyer, not one really. All the bullets landed within a good range of the grouping and the ones that were outside of it a bit were just that, outside of it a bit. The consistency of this ammo is second to none. The target itself did not even look like a target with 50 bullets in it the grouping was so tight. Outside the main grouping there where about 16 bullets mildly just outside the grouping with those included the grouping was 2” wide by 1 3/4” tall. That alone is a good grouping especially for 50 bullets. You take out the ones that were on the outer ring that we’ll say had a mild or very slight inconsistency and the grouping was 1 3/8” wide by 1 1/8” tall. Now that is impressive!

This ammo just knocked my socks off at how good it was. Go Aguila, I can’t wait to shoot some of your higher end ammo and see how that compares with these.
