Data Partnerships work is critical in onboarding global institutions to the Linked Open Data web to free up their data, so more knowledge can be made free and accessible to all of humanity. Without Data Partnerships, many institutions may have their data locked and stored in local databases. Join us and learn about the role of Data Partnerships at Wikimedia Deutschland, as it collaborates with local communities to set free and link knowledge around the world.

Data Partnerships refers to partnerships involving Wikidata and Wikibase. Wikidata is a free and openly accessible Wikimedia project that stores Linked Open Data about the world. Wikibase is the free, open-source software that powers Wikidata, and that can be used to store and organize information that can be collaboratively edited, translated into multiple languages, and read by humans and computers.

Wikimedia Deutschland has been actively pursuing Linked Open Data Partnerships with local communities and global institutions to make their knowledge accessible for everyone via Wikidata and Wikibase. This session, provides insight into Wikimedia Deutschland's Data Partnerships, where the following will be covered:

Wikimania is the annual global conference of the Wikimedia movement, celebrating free knowledge projects like Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikisource, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, Wiktionary and the volunteer community that makes them possible. It features presentations, discussions, meetups, training, and workshops on Wikimedia projects and related topics such as free and open-source software, free knowledge, and free content. The event fosters connection, learning, idea exchange, and fun among Wikimedians and free knowledge enthusiasts from around the world.

Wikimania 2023 was held from 16–19 August in Singapore at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre and online. The theme for this 18th edition was Diversity, Collaboration, Future.
