Описание к видео "Next Gen Men: Bridging Culture and Sustainability in Biripi Country’s Aquaculture Journey"

This week, our Next Gen Men took a deep dive into the world of aquaculture, guided by the expertise of Mark, a proud Biripi man, and his family’s fish farming operation called Pioneer Fish Farming. Set against the stunning backdrop of Gloucester, we learned about breeding and managing a traditional native fish—the silver perch. This is no ordinary job; it’s a 24/7 commitment to sustainable farming and cultural heritage.

Our young men were immersed in every aspect of the process—from learning about testing water quality to understanding the fish's breeding patterns, diet, and the critical role clean waters play in a thriving ecosystem. They quickly discovered that fish farming is about more than just keeping the fish alive—it's about preserving culture and sustaining the land.

The highlight came when the boys moved from yarning to action. They jumped into the mud, herding hundreds of fish towards the deep end of the dam, casting nets, and hauling them into holding tanks as the water level dropped in preparation for the next season. Watching a young Biripi man master the traditional art of casting a net was a powerful moment, tying the past to the present.

From catching fish weighing over 800 grams to scooping up thousands of shrimp, it was a day of sun, hard work, laughter, and learning. But most importantly, our young men gave back to the community, helping this family prepare for the seasons ahead. This hands-on experience left them inspired and proud of their contribution, deepening their connection to the land, to tradition, and to each other.

The video is supported by didgeridoo playing and music by Mark.
