진도씻김굿은 전라남도 진도지역에서 전승되는 망자의 극락왕생을 빌고 천도하는 굿이다. 오늘날 지구촌 곳곳의 수많은 사람들이 죽어가고 있다. 그 죽음이 전쟁으로 인한 것이든, 기아나 질병, 테러로 인한 것이든, 또한 억울한 죽음이든, 숭고한 죽음이든 인간의 죽음은 슬플 수밖에 없고 우리를 숙연하게 만든다.
"진혼"은 이 세상의 모든 죽음 앞에 바치는 짧은 위안의 의미로 이 작품을 구상하였다. 진도씻김굿 중 초가망석과 영돗말이, 넋올리기 등의 연행과정을 간추리고 무의식 巫儀式을 적절히 배치하여 종합 예술적 형태로 무대화한 작품이다.

“Jindo Requiem” (Korean title: Jinhon) is based on Jindo ssitgimgut. Today, a great many people around the world are dying. Whether it is caused by war, hunger, disease, or terrorism and whether it is unjust or sublime, human death is inevitably sad and makes us solemn.“Jinhon” has been conceived as a short consolation for all the deaths in the world. It is a comprehensive artistic form of not only rearranging the music practiced in the procedures of “Choga mangseok,” “Yeongdot mari,” and “Neok oligi” in Jindo ssitgimgut but appropriately locating the ritual-like performance on stage.
