While Netflix's adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is set to be a faithful live-action retelling, there are some iconic ATLA moments that just won't look as good as their animated counterparts. As in the original series, Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender is set in a world where some people can bend one of the four elements — earth, fire, air, or water. The Avatar, however, can manipulate all four elements, and serves as the bridge between the human and spirit worlds. The Avatar reincarnation cycle rotates through the elements, with the most recent Avatar being born into the Air Nomads.

This was 100 years before the start of the series — at the very beginning of a war started by the Fire Nation. Eager to snuff out the latest Avatar, a boy named Aang, the Fire Nation massacred the Air Nomads, but Aang fled. Frozen in an iceberg for decades, Aang is discovered by Water Tribe siblings Katara and Sokka. Together, the trio believe Aang is the key to ending the war. While it's not clear how much of ATLA's Book 1 will be covered in Netflix's first outing, there are certain moments throughout the series' three-season run that will be challenging to recreate in a live-action format.
