As the Golden Eagles kept the score close and continually gave itself a chance late against Hamilton Badin on Saturday, the same close calls around the basket repeatedly occurred to bring a disappointing end to its season.

Bellbrook lost to Badin 58-55 in the Division III district finals at Princeton High School after a final potential tying three-point shot by Jordan Frantz hit off the front of the rim.

Rather than being the reason for the loss, the final shot encompassed Bellbrook’s frustrations throughout the game. Numerous times the Golden Eagles were unable to finish near the rim and ended the night with one of their lowest scoring outputs of the season.

“It comes down to those little things,” head coach Jason Tincher said. “They’re all good games now, so you’ve got to do the little things to get to that next level. Too many offensive rebounds we gave up and a couple of missed layups, but that’s basketball and to win those games it’s who does more of those little things to get them over the hump.”

Bellbrook never was able to get the lead until Frantz hit a three to put Bellbrook ahead 34-32 just past the midway point of the third quarter. Badin had 20 offensive rebounds and 15 second chance points off them.

Badin advances to play Carroll in the regional semifinal round at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Lakota East High School.

Bellbrook advanced to the district final for the second time in four seasons, but is still searching for its first championship since 2018. The Golden Eagles will graduate four seniors that extended the school’s SWBL regular season title streak to six consecutive titles this season.
