chardash at a wedding

Описание к видео chardash at a wedding

At a wedding in Ruski Krstur, Voivodina, in 1987 (still in Yugoslavia then). The population of the village is mostly ethnically Rusyn. The guests at the wedding pay for the right to dance a bit of the chardash with the bride. In theory, they alternate between members of the bride's family, and then members of the groom's family, in a ritualized display of her moment of transition between clans. The groom dances with her last, and carries her right out of the room. See other links related to "Ukrainian Dance: A Cross-Cultural Approach" through www.ukrdance.ca.
