This episode, we’re talking about Script Kiddies.

Script kiddie is a term used by hackers to describe individuals who don’t writing their own code to infiltrate targeted systems, but instead purchase code from other developers or use older code scripts available online. This somewhat derogatory name is often shortened to “skiddies.” Skiddies aren’t necessarily teenagers, however; the term refers to experience level rather than age.

Today, would-be hackers can go online and purchase ready-to-use computer code for as little as $50. This low “cost of entry” means that even a small business can be a profitable target for a cyberattack.

And because smaller businesses are more likely to be suffer financial and reputational harm from an attack, even companies that may not HAVE to implement an information security program under current regulations might find it a good idea to have at least basic security measures in place.

After all, some protection is better than no protection!
