Zelensky implores Congress to deploy more aircraft to Kiev | US News | NewsRme

Fighting for his country's existence, Ukraine's president made a "desperate" appeal Saturday to US legislators to help him secure additional airplanes and shut off Russian oil shipments.


Zelensky told the legislators that this may be their final opportunity to see him alive as he began the video conference. At his disposal is a massive Russian armored column in Kyiv, the country's capital.



As he stood in front of a Ukrainian flag-draped white wall, clad in his signature camouflaged army green shirt, he warned them that Ukraine must safeguard its skies, either via a no-fly zone imposed by NATO or by providing additional airplanes so that Ukraine can better defend itself. Despite Zelensky's pleas, NATO has declined to implement a no-fly zone, citing the risk of a wide-scale conflict with Russia.
