HISTORICALLY ACCURATE ELSA || I Made an 1840s Norwegian "Bunad"

Описание к видео HISTORICALLY ACCURATE ELSA || I Made an 1840s Norwegian "Bunad"

I made a historical Norwegian dress (the inspiration for what we now know as bunad under folk dress) as a historically accurate Elsa costume! Frozen takes place in 1840s Norway, and I wanted to place Elsa into the time period, as though she were a real person who could have lived there, thus creating a dress for Arendelle and Queen Elsa. I researched the traditional dress of Norway, which was later adapted into modern folk dress.

The term "bunad" is more modern than this period - it was introduced into Norway by Hulda Garborg at the start of the 20th century. This dress style existed in the 1840s, and I am using the term to refer to the style here - the Norwegian museums use it to catalogue clothing from earlier periods as well. At the time of filming, I was under the impression that this term now referred to the general style in modern vernacular speech, due to its usage in the context. Since so many people are interested in the origin of the word and associated word variations, I will gladly speak more on this topic in my upcoming Anna project! Research on the style was conducted based on extant garments (of any name you wish to call them, please refer to individual item names!) from the era. If you are interested in this style, you can also look into folkdrakt in general, or fantastidrakt, which is a fantasy folk dress designed for no specific area. (And come back for Anna in a few months!)

Swedes and Norwegians like to jest at one another, though we love one another despite being slightly "weird" from each other! ;p

Note that while bunad and the older versions of the style were not necessarily everyday clothing for everyone, the reasoning for selecting this style is because Anna and their mother wear this style as everyday clothing in the Frozen movies, and I thought Elsa should match! She is also the queen and gets to be fancy if she wants to!
