CSIRO’s Controlled Climate Test Facility (CCTF) tests the performance of air-conditioning components under varying climatic conditions, to help improve energy efficiency and for clients to understand and improve equipment performance. The facility is able to mimic the weather conditions experienced around the world – from cold and dry to warm and humid climates. The research helps industry and government with air-conditioning and refrigeration technology, which consumes more than 20% of all produced electricity in Australia. Increased efficiencies in air-conditioning components can result in increased comfort and performance as well as reduced demands on electricity systems, which is especially helpful during peak periods.
