Johannesburg City Power has embarked on an operation to cut-off illegal electricity connections at Motsoaledi informal settlement in Soweto. The power utility says illegal connections often lead to the quality of services being compromised and infrastructure damaged.

The operation is part of the utility's winter strategy to deal head-on with areas that temper with electricity.
