Eddie Mullins describes prison, statistics and impact Eddie joined the Irish Prison Service in 1991 and has been stationed at a number of institutions. He was promoted to Industrial Supervisor in 1999 and to assistant governor in 2007, assigned to The Midlands prison with specific responsibility for HR. In 2014, Eddie was promoted to Governor 3 and assigned to Loughan House, an open centre. He was promoted to Governor 2 and assigned to Mountjoy Prison in 2017.

Eddie is passionate about prisoner progression and staff engagement. While stationed at Loughan House, he introduced the first social enterprise project in the IPS and, at Mountjoy, he has overseen the rebranding of Mountjoy West to what is now the Progression Unit; and led Mountjoy to achieve the Ibec KeepWell Mark, the first prison in Ireland to do so.

Eddie holds a Msc in Business Practice with the Irish Management Institute, is member of the Mediators Institute of Ireland, and is a big sports fan, particularly of GAA. He is married and has three adult children. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
