Underground Art Class In the Himalayas | Thangka Painting In Nepal

Описание к видео Underground Art Class In the Himalayas | Thangka Painting In Nepal

A Thangka, is a Tibetan Buddhist painting on a cotton canvas usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala. It’s a massively popular artform in Nepal, and it sometimes goes on to depict Hindu gods as well.

I signed up for a class in Kathmandu that teaches this artform and realized that I am way worse at everything than I thought, but you already knew that based off of every other video on this channel.

When I first walked up to the studio, I was 100% sure that I just paid someone to work in their sweatshop for a day.

Here’s what was different about this place though. Everybody was extremely kind and even though most of the people there didn’t speak any language I did, it still felt welcoming. Everybody was joking around with each other and having a good time just doing some painting. I was the only student for this session and that made the whole experience seem extremely intimate.

This is a step towards becoming a series I want to do called artist explores the world. That there is the dream.
