A solemn mass vigil was held at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on December 21, 2025, to honour the victims of last week’s deadly gun attack at a Jewish Hanukkah festival.

Rabbi Yehoram Ulman led the memorial ceremony, lighting a candle near a large menorah as attendees observed a minute of silence at 6:47 p.m., the exact time the attack began. The national anthem and the song Waltzing Matilda were performed, and the community came together to remember the 15 people killed and dozens injured in the attack.

David Ossip, president of the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies, praised Ahmed al Ahmed, described as the “Bondi hero,” for disarming one of the assailants and sustaining injuries in the process. New South Wales Premier Chris Minns also spoke, highlighting the resilience of the Jewish community in reclaiming Bondi Beach as a place of hope and solidarity.

The vigil served as a moment of national reflection on the rise of antisemitic incidents in Australia and a reminder of the power of courage and community.
