It is the Highest waterfall in Malshej region in Pune District and its height is around 1220 Feet.

Kalu waterfall lie in the Malshej region of Maharashtra. It is the largest and highest waterfall in the Malshej region. It is formed on Kalu river which originates from Harishchandragad mountain and flows through Khireshwar village and falls down from deccan plateau to konkan part in Thitabi region. Total height of the waterfall is around 370m which is broken down into multiple stages. There are five stages or steps of the waterfall.

The waterfall is only seasonal where in monsoon it flows dangerously with low visibility and during summer it is bone dry. Kalu waterfall falls from a region which is a perfect example of strong erosion by water. The river bed is highly eroded with deep water holes and pockets which can be dangerous during flowing water as it seems to be flat bed.

For Kalu waterfall you have to come to Khubi phata for the top view and then you have to travel around 1 KM and then you will come to see the waterfall. And for base view you have to travel around 3 KM from Thitabi Village, this route is quite difficult and you need to cross the river 3-4 times.

One of the peaceful places near Malshej as many people don't know much about this place. There are too many good spots where you can click pictures, take a rest, have your meal and enjoy nature at its best. There are villagers around who will help you for lunch and also guide you till the waterfall (Chargeable).

Kalu river flows 110 km towards Arabian sea and meets the mighty Ulhas River at Kalyan City near Ambivali village. Kalu and Ulhas are the two major river systems of this belt where Kalu being the major tributary to Ulhas river which eventually drains into Arabian sea near Thane and Vasai.

Kalu waterfall is extremely dangerous during heavy monsoon. The trek till the base should not be done during heavy rains as the river is highly flash flood prone, loose rocks falling from above and massive amounts of water flow through the river bed since a major portion of the trek to base is done through river bed. However one can visit the top of the falls.
