➡️The Old Courthouse was the site of the first two trials of the pivotal Dred Scott case, in 1847 and 1850. It was also where Virginia Minor’s case for a woman’s right to vote came to trial in the 1870s.

➡️The 14-foot bronze statue known as the Freedom Suits Memorial honors the more than 300 Black Missourians who, over nearly six decades, fought for their freedom in the St. Louis Circuit Court with the assistance of lawyers, judges, and jurors. The statue is engraved with the names of the enslaved plaintiffs in what’s believed to be the largest known single collection of their identities, according to a press release by the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court.

➡️The Eagleton U.S. Courthouse is dedicated to former U.S. Senator Thomas F. Eagleton for his distinguished service to his community, state, and nation. In 1968, Senator Eagleton was elected to the first of three terms in the U.S. Senate, where he won recognition for his work in foreign relations through the Eagleton Amendment to cut off funding for the bombing of Cambodia, which effectively ended U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.
