Luigi Mangione Charged With Murder And Terrorism | 10 News First

Luigi Mangione - the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare's CEO - has been charged with murder as an act of terrorism, prosecutors revealed on Tuesday.

Under New York law, the charge can be brought when the alleged crime is "intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, influence the policies of a unit of government by intimidation or coercion and affect the conduct of a unit of government by murder, assassination or kidnapping.”

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg described the death of CEO Brian Thompson as a "frightening, well-planned, targeted murder that was intended to cause shock and attention and intimidation".

The 26-year-old will face court on Thursday for gun and forgery offences in Pennsylvania, before an extradition hearing to bring him back to New York.
