Printer : The word print means to print or print. Thus, a printer is an output device that allows all text and graphics displayed on a computer monitor to be instantly printed on paper.

Characteristics of Printer : Different companies make different types of printers. However, the characteristics of the printer usually depend on the performance principle, quality and price of the printer. The printer features are listed below :
1. Speed: Printer speed is determined by CPS - Characters Per Second and LPM - Line Per Minute. That is, the speed of the printer is expressed by how many characters per second or how many lines can be printed per minute.
2. Quality: The quality of the text edited by the printer is determined by the print quality.
3. Print mechanism: The type of printer is indicated by the print mechanism. Such as: dot matrix printer, laser printer, inkjet printer, drum printer, chain printer etc.
4. Character Set: The total number of data characters and control characters detected by the printer is indicated by the character set.
5. Interface: Indicates whether the printer accepts data characters in parallel form (one character at a time) or in serial form (one bit at a time).
6. Buffer size: The amount of data stored in the printer buffer memory before printing depends on the buffer size.
7. Print mode: This indicates serial or parallel mode.
8. Print Size: This indicates the character (number of print columns) and character size per line.
9. Print Direction: Indicates whether the printing work should be one way, two way or vice versa.
