Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2023 Buick Enclave, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver. Before we get into that though, let's check this one out. So one of the nice things about putting a hitch on the back of the Enclave is that it's going to live behind your bumper and so when you're ready to use it, it'll look like this, but when you're done, you can take the panel, pop that back into position and cover everything up. So you're not gonna have to look at the hitch, it'll look completely factory and not be an eyesore on the back of your Buick, which that does bring me to my next point. For those of you that never removed this panel before you decide on a trailer hitch, probably not a bad idea just to drop this down and see if there's one behind here.
I know it sounds kind of silly, but it does happen from time to time you get 'em in and no one's removed the door and there's actually a factory hitch already installed. So just from my experience and seeing that happen before, I figured I'd mention it, you get a lot of people asking once you put a trailer hitch back here, you know, is it going to affect your hands free lift gate assist feature And the answer is no. You know, you really don't have to change up a whole lot. You know, as long as you kick your foot underneath the fascia, the rear hatch will open up like it should. Compared to some of the other hitches available, I'll be honest with you, they're all gonna be extremely similar in terms of sitting behind the bumper.
One of the differences between 'em will be the finish. So the Draw-Tite has kinda a semi-gloss type finish. The Curt has more of a gloss black and then the etrailer has more of a matte black. So it's really just gonna be your personal preference. The Draw-Tite hitch too also right here has this little tab that comes out and what that is, that's a pre-attached bracket to allow you to make mounting up your trailer wiring connector a little bit easier if that's something you plan on doing, but not really a huge deal honestly.
With the other two hitches you can take your wiring, drop it down and connect it to the safety chain loop or put a bracket on, whatever you want to do. As far as the hitches weight capacities go, it's gonna have a 750 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating. That's the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. Really good number, should be able to use any size bike rack or cargo carrier just to give you an example. And for the maximum gross trailer weight rating, that's gonna be 5,000 pounds or the amount of weight pulling on the hitch, that will be the weight of your trailer plus anything that you might have enter on it.
This can be used at the weight distribution system, which is a separate component. What happens when you use that, it's gotta keep your Enclave and your trailer level whenever you're going down the road. Pretty popular on campers and enclosed trailers, things like that. But even if you do use the weight distribution, the capacities are gonna remain the same. Tongue weight at 750, trailer weight at 5,000. Now with all that said, I do always like to recommend, it's always a good idea just to grab your Buick's owner's manual. That way you can look in there and make sure that your Enclave can handle that amount of weight safely. The hitch is gonna have a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. Super common size. A lot of different things are gonna work with it and it's going to use the standard five eights pin and clip, one doesn't come with the hitch. If you need one, you can always get it here at etrailer. A lot of times too, if you end up buying a new accessory, they'll come with one. So something to look out for there. And the safety chain openings, they're nice and thick, they're loop style, pretty big and should allow you to use pretty much any size hook that your trailer might add on it. We'll grab a couple measurements now and these will help us figure out what type of accessories will work best. If we go from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be I'd say about three and a half inches, which is really good. Shouldn't really run into too many issues here, but if need be, you can use that to help figure out exactly if any of those folding type accessories can
