Plastic Money - Atomic City (CT, 1984)

Описание к видео Plastic Money - Atomic City (CT, 1984)

First stop on Plastic Money's 1984 debut LP, "The Irony of Solution," is a post-apocalyptic adventure in "Atomic City." Much like Sheik Vaselino's "In The Streets," (posted a few weeks back), the lyrics could have been inspired by pulp science fiction of one type or another. Ex- B-film actor Ronnie Raygun's ascendance to the presidency further blurred the lines between consumer pop culture & Mutually Assured Destruction in ways we now take for granted. But back then, wow.

"Atomic City" was written by Plastic Money's guitarist & vocalist Mike Bloomer. Bloomer turned up in a few other CT bands over the next decade or so. Plastic Money's drummer, Joseph Lemieux, uploaded a make-up heavy low-budget video for this song on his YouTube channel -- it should have ruled MTV's Basement Tapes for several weeks, minimum. Metallic Rainforest highly recommends you commune with the residents of Atomic City, both musically and visually. And check out some of their other songs / videos on Mike's channel.

[Lyrics]

" The dome over my head
Keeps the outside out
Or we'd all by dead by now
From all the fallout

Most of our world is gone
In the atom wars
But the city gives us all we need
And we want no more

And in the atomic city
Life is always pretty
We're here in the atomic city
For a million years

The mutants from the outside
Tried another break-in
There's more every time
They should have starved by now

And I feel a little sorry
But we can do nothing for them
You see the seal cannot be broken
For a million years."

And in the atomic city
Life is always pretty
We're here in the atomic city
For a million years"
